Ponzi Scheme

A Ponzi scheme generates the appearance of steady returns by paying earlier investors with capital collected from newer investors, rather than from any genuine underlying investment activity. It requires a constantly growing pool of new money to survive and inevitably collapses when withdrawals outpace new deposits. Consistently smooth, above-market returns regardless of market conditions are a classic warning sign.
